DNC Girl Scout Patch

Membership

Dunwoody Nature Center Youth Organization MEMBERSHIP is $75. Your scout troop is entitled to one complimentary daytime field trip — please call (770)394-3322 to schedule. You will also receive a discount on overnights (Night Owls and Camping 101).

Dunwoody Nature Center Family MEMBERSHIP is $45 per year. Your family receives discounted admission to DNC programs, classes and camps.

The Dunwoody Nature Center is a private, nonprofit organization completely supported by donations, memberships and program fees.

Dunwoody Nature Center helps your troop earn patches, badges, try-its, and awards with many programs and service opportunities. Come and enjoy the resources of Dunwoody Park as a DNC educator leads your troop on a fun and educational program of your choice. All of our programs are designed to meet scouting requirements as outlined in your project handbooks. Sign up today!

 

Older siblings are welcome to participate! Just pay the usual program fee. We encourage younger siblings to have free time at the playground. Please note there is a $30 weekend surcharge for field trips scheduled outside our usual Mon-Fri operating hours.

Dunwoody Nature Center Patches

DNC patches are $3 per patch. Overnight groups get a discount and pay only $2 per patch! They are available in two designs — one for boys and one for girls. Ask us about them!

DAISY SCOUTS

Programs are 1 hour long
Cost is $4 per scout — No charge for adults

Discover Nature

Daisies learn how plants & animals change through the year in this introduction to nature. Four seasonal offerings:

  • Spring Into Action
  • Butterflies Are Free (summer)
  • Fall Frolics, and
  • Winter Wonderland.

Nature Makes Sense

Using their senses, Daisies explore the park, discover the differences between natural and manmade items, play hearing and smelling games and share their discoveries.

BROWNIE TRY-ITS

Programs are 1 hour long
Cost is $6 per scout — No charge for adults

Animals

Explore how wild and domestic animals look, move and sound as well as learn how to care for pets and wildlife.

Earth & Sky

Learn about the soil, the sky and the animals who fly. Dig in the dirt. Create clouds to take home.

Eco-Explorer

Become a naturalist by exploring nature’s many parts. Learn about food webs, habitats and helping wildlife.

Watching Wildlife

Animals have many things to teach us! Brownies learn how to be good observers & caretakers of the fauna around them.

Water Everywhere

Brownies learn about our most precious resource with games, experiment, and exploration of Wildcat Creek.

JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT BADGES

Programs are 2 hours long
Cost is $8 per scout — No charge for adults

Camp Together

Your troop can earn this badge by preparing for and attending the Camping 101 overnight at DNC. See the overnights section for more information.

Earth Connections

Become an ecologist for a day by understanding the connections in nature, identifying trees, learning about food webs and studying an ecosystem.

Eco-Action

Scouts get a chance to work for the environment, create recycled art and learn about a womoan champion of the environment.

Outdoor Creativity

Nature will inspire scouts to create art, poetry and crafts that express their love of the outdoors.

Plants & Animals

Scouts explore the world of flora and fauna by learning about invasive species, creating seed art and taking home a plant to grow..

Rocks Rock

Hike the park discovering rocks, erosion problems, weather patterns and soil types as an introduction to geology.

Science Discovery

Hands-on science experiments and discovery will introduce scouts to the science all around them.

Water Wonders

Scouts will learn why water is our most precious resource through experiments, a service project, water cycle activities and exploration of Wildcat Creek.

Wildlife

Scouts play games, create art, and observe birds to learn about caring for wildlife, avoiding dangerous plants and nature’s details.

  • Give us a call at DNC to sign up for our mailing list to receive brochures, program reminders & special event information by mail and email. Our members get this information automatically!
  • Hands On Atlanta hosts service days at DNC every third Saturday of the month, 9am - 11am. To participate, sign up at www.handsonatlanta.org — go to volunteer projects and search for Dunwoody Nature Center.
  • Earn your Eagle award at DNC by completing a service project in our park.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What are your operating hours?

Dunwoody Nature Center is open Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm and on some weekends for scheduled programs. Admission to the center and Dunwoody Park is FREE.

When can I schedule a program?

We can accommodate scout trips anytime inside our normal operating hours, Mon - Fri. Need a weekend? For a $30 weekend surcharge, DNC will work with you to meet your pack or den's needs. Schedule evening and overnight programs any evening of the week.

How do I schedule a program?

  • Weekday Programs: Pay a non-refundable deposit of $50 at least 1 week prior to your trip date.
  • Evenings & Overnights: Pay a non-refundable deposit of $150 for evening programs and $200 for overnights at least 3 weeks prior to your trip date.
  • For All Programs: Pay your balance, calculated on the number of scouts who attend, on the day of your visit.

Can we picnic & play in the park before or after the program?

Yes, absolutely! Come early or stay late to...

  • explore trails throughout 22 acres of Dunwoody Park
  • have snack in the picnic meadow
  • visit the playground
  • romp over rocks in Wildcat Creek

Can our troop become members of Dunwoody Nature Center?

YES! Sign your troop up as a Youth Organization Member of DNC for $75/year. You will receive a discount on overnight programs and 1 complimentary daytime field trip a year (although the $30 weekend and evening surcharge still applies).
